The Green Spain route is the region of the Northern coast of the Iberian Peninsula, along the Cantabrian Sea. It comprehends four regions: Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria and the Basque Country.

The region’s incredible and diverse geography attracts thousands of visitors who return fascinated with its wonderful landscapes and stunning views as well as its cultural richness. Its climate is nice with mild temperatures on the coast all along the year and a continental regime in the inside and high lands.

The Cantabrian sea shore has plenty of different landscapes, from sandy beaches to tall cliffs. The interior region is not less beautiful with mountains of more than 2000 meters (6.561,68 feet) tall grouped in the Montes Galaicos and the Cantabrian chain of mountains, apart from the green grasslands and ancient forests. Sports and adventure lovers will find a paradise in green Spain, since its rivers are ideal for fishing, rafting and canoeing. They offer both fast and quiet waters and its tall peaks are one of the top European destinations for trekking. In addition, several ski centers could be found on the snowy regions.

The Green Spain region is formed by different people such as the Galician or the Basque, whose traditions and cultural legacy are as rich as diverse and each with a strong sense of identity. Along the route, visitors will discover each region’s language, history and art. The region has several heritage sites and beautiful examples of pre Romanic, Romanic and gothic architecture. Several museums, theatres and local festivities enrich its major cities such as San Sebastian, Bilbao, Oviedo, Santander and La Coruña.

The Green Spain coastal cuisine includes delicious fish and seafood. Moreover, its delicious cheese, ham and other typical mountain products can be served with extraordinary wines and drinks which are worldwide famous as the Asturian cider.
