The Iberian Peninsula is located in a temperate zone; therefore its weather and average temperatures are in general gentle but pretty varied between its different zones along the year.
Spain’s weather is mediterranean on the Southern and Eastern coast, continental on the Center and oceanic on the Cantabrian and Atlantic coasts. In general temperatures are temperate on the South and they get cooler when heading to the North. The highest temperatures are normally registered in August while January is usually the coldest month.
The Northern regions of Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria, the Basque Country and Northern Catalonia have nice temperatures that go from averages of 13°C in January to 23°C in August. Rains are constant along the year but not very abundant.
Central Spain has a dry weather with little rains and pretty variable temperatures between the Summer and the Winter. Its averages go from 10°C in the winter to 29°C in the summer. Most of the Central regions such as Madrid and Castille la Macha are usually the warmest ones.
Weather on Eastern coast and the Balearic Islands is pretty dry during the Summer and Winter with heavy rains during the Spring and Autumn. Temperatures are gentle ranging between 15°C in January and 29°C in August.
Regarding the Eastern coast, Andalusia is rainy during Autumn and Spring while very dry on the Summer, which provokes it to be extremely sunny and warm during this period. This is the hottest Spanish region with average temperatures of 38°C in August. Winter on the other hand is not very cold with an average of 15°C.
The weather in Canary Islands is dry in general with temperatures between 18°C and 24°C.
