Anyway it is good to check with your local bank if your ATM card is good for Spain before trying.
Exchange vendors are another good option but keep in mind that the rate they charge may vary depending on their location, for example vendors at the airport will probably apply less convenient rates for the costumer. Spanish banks normally apply good exchange rates, but they usually apply transaction fees and have a short opening hour period.
Another payment option is credit card, since most renewed international cards are accepted in the vast majority of hotels, restaurants, supermarkets and shops. Travelers Checks are hardly accepted, so it is not an advisable form of payment. But they can be a good way of keeping some reserve money safe, you can bring them into the country and in case you need the cash, many banks change them at a reasonable fee.
