Lifestyle - Barcelona

Since its beginnings, Barcelona has always been an open window to the sea. Its historical relation to trade has attracted other cultures which wrapped the city on their habits and cultural elements. But even though they have learned to embrace change, the Barcelonans are a population very stick to tradition; they take care of their heritage and they cultivate an own identity. The result of these is Barcelona’s cosmopolitan character, a unique cultural identity strongly Catalan and always open to the world.

Therefore, Barcelona is a bursting city, in constant movement and change. As one of Europe’s cultural Mecas, it has a strong relation with culture and art. Its citizens are very fond of cultural activities and public spectacles. These characteristics have developed a cultural social conscience, making Barcelona a real artists cradle. Barcelona is a place of attraction for intellectuals, artists, professionals and students from the entire world. Its Universities are among the best reputed in Spain and Europe.

As one of Spain’s most important cities, Barcelona has been chosen to host various international events such as the Universal Exposition in 1888, the International Exposition in 1929 and the Olympic games of 1992. It is also a city much related to fashion and design, where the most important designers would not miss a place.

Barcelonans go out to the cinema, they attend the theatres and museums, they go to live concerts and they love public spectacles. The above mentioned role as a trading city and the historical link with the rest of Europe helped Barcelona to preserve a wealth status. It is a high level city and therefore it is not cheap. On the last years it has always been among the top cities in the ranking of the most expensive Spanish urban centres.
